YEREVAN. – Next year, Armenia will use the 14.2 billion-dram (about $29,780,000) Russian loan for construction of its nuclear power plant (NPP). 

Extension of the lifetime of the NPP’s current energy unit will help buy time in the ongoing negotiations with investors, and with respect to building a new nuclear plant in the country.

The aforesaid is noted in Armenia’s 2017 State Budget draft, whose committee discussions continue Monday in the National Assembly.

The respective program is aimed at funding the contractual prepayments for the ongoing work within the framework of the same-name loan program.
