Human Rights Defender (Ombudsman) of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan, on Friday met with United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCHR), (Prince) Zeid bin Ra’ad Zeid al-Hussein, in Geneva, Switzerland.

Tatoyan briefed the UNHCHR on the fundamental human rights violations which the Azerbaijani armed forces committed against the civilian population of Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh), during their military aggression in early April.

In addition, the ombudsman of Armenia presented to Al-Hussein the Artsakh human rights defender’s respective analytical reports as well as the data on the prohibited weapons used, and targeted attacks on settlements, by Azerbaijan. 

Also, the ombudsman presented to the UNHCHR the Karabakh human rights defender’s invitation to visit Artsakh, to get familiarized with the human rights situation there.

Furthermore, Arman Tatoyan stressed the importance of the Artsakh ombudsman’s participation in international meetings.

At the end of the talk, Zeid bin Ra’ad Zeid al-Hussein underscored the role of Armenia’s human rights defender in contacts between international organizations and Armenian authorities.
