UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has welcomed formation of a national unity government in Lebanon. He expressed a hope, that after this step, there will be held parliamentary elections in the country.

The Secretary-General, was pleased to note, that the new Prime Minister Saad Al-Hariri managed to quickly form a government. The UN chief in his statement urged the Lebanese political leaders to continue the national reconciliation process.

Ban Ki-moon ensured, that the UN is ready to cooperate over the new government's political, humanitarian, and socio-economic issues, as well as resolution of safety issues. He stressed the importance of the implementation of Security Council resolution 1701 adopted in 2006.
