UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will push the Waterford crystal button in Time Square to begin the official 60-second countdown to 2017, reports New York Daily News.

Waterford crystal is a crystal ball with a diameter of 3.5 m and 6 tons of weight, which lowers to the dome of one of the high-rise buildings. It will reach its lowest point, when the New Year will begin in the US East Coast.

As earlier reported, the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres will take the office on January 1, 2017.
