The ratification of Armenia-Turkey Protocols is frozen and Armenian side made its stance clear that the ball is in Ankara’s court, so no other step by Armenia is expected in this regard, Chief Editor of the Istanbul-based “Zhamanak” daily Ara Gochunyan stated in an interview with Azg daily.

Referring to the contradictory statements on the border opening, while Turkish officials overtly link the fate of Armenia-Turkey accords with Karabakh conflict resolution, Gochunyan stressed Turkish society is a multilayer one. Turkey is a democratically developing country,  that is why different standpoints and approaches should be voiced.  “The same is observed in Armenia. The present situation testifies today Turkey links Karabakh issue with the normalization process, whereas Armenia opposes it. Divergent positions on Karabakh peace process brought about a chill in reconciliation process.”

According to him, it is difficult to forecast further developments in Armenia-Turkey relations, as both parties have different stance and prospects for choice.  It should be overcome for the authorities to feel more confident and achieve a breakthrough in the two states’ foreign policy.

As to whether it will affect the Armenian community in Istanbul, Gochunyan emphasized the recent changes are only for the better of the Armenian community.
