Protocols initialed by Armenia and Turkey reflect the approaches to the normalization of bilateral relations, says a statement issued by the Prosperous Armenia Party.

In the context of Armenian-Turkish relations, the party is guided by the approaches incorporated in its election program: the scope and direction of Armenia’s participation in the process of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide must be in conformity with the national interests.

The party’s position is that the international recognition and denunciation of the Armenian Genocide has no alternative.

Considering the above, the party states:

1. The documents generally reflect the Prosperous Armenia Party’s approaches to the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations without preconditions, which underlie the foreign policy of the Republic of Armenia;

2. We believe that the development of the Armenian-Turkish dialogue without preconditions may also give impetus to the process of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide, as well as to the transformation of public sentiments in Turkey. We consider it most unrealistic to bring the issue up in a commanding tone;

3. We welcome the fact that the initialed protocols do not contain any mention of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, which has repeatedly been set by Turkey as a precondition to the establishment diplomatic relations;

4. A positive tendency is also the proposal to form an intergovernmental commission to hold high-level discussions of all the problems, including the admission of the Armenian Genocide by Turkey.
