Three Armenian boxers Hovhannes Danielyan (48 kg), Azat Hovhannisyan (57 kg) and Andranik Hakobyan (75 kg) reached the quarterfinal in the World Boxing Championship in Milan, 2009. Danielyan defeated South African Lebogang Pilane by the score 12:3. Hovhannisyan gained a convincing victory over Italian Alessio di Savino-14:7. Hakobyan beat Irish Darren O'Neill -7:3. If slipping to the semifinal, the boxers will have an opportunity to qualify for bronze.
