The UN General Assembly will hold an emergency session Thursday to vote on a draft resolution rejecting US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital city, reported Agence France-Presse (AFP) news agency.

The United States on Monday vetoed the measure at the Security Council, and which was backed by all 14 other Security Council members.

Turkey and Yemen requested the urgent meeting of the assembly on behalf of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab group of countries, respectively.

The two countries on Tuesday circulated a draft resolution that mirrors the vetoed measure, reaffirming that any decision on the status of Jerusalem has no legal effect and must be rescinded.

On December 6, US President Donald Trump stated, that he recognizes Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel, and said the US Department of State has been ordered to start transferring the US embassy in Israel, from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

But this decision has brought about worldwide reaction.
