The first off-line supermarket of the Internet giant Amazon, in which there are no usual cash desks, opens on January 22, in the American Seattle, reports DW.
The supermarket is called Amazon Go. There are no cash desks in this supermarket: all the customers simply put the selected goods in the basket, and then leave the store. The sum of purchases is automatically written off from the Amazon user account. In addition, on each shelf there are scales, which register the taken goods.
To visit the store you need to download a special mobile application. Before entering the store and after completing purchases, the phone must be scanned at a specialized turnstile. After choosing a specific product, the buyer does not need to keep it in front of the code reader or any similar device. Amazon claims that the system does not use face recognition when shopping. However, the representatives of American media, who visited the store before the official opening, noted that the store installed dozens of video cameras.
The opening of such a store was announced more than a year ago. According to unconfirmed media reports, the technology introduced at first did not work well with a large crowd of people. Over the past time, the problem has been resolved.
