If the authorities do not agree to early elections, a war will break out in Armenia, Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, the Chairman of the Liberal Party of Armenia and member of the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC), told journalists January 14.

“The authorities had better agree to early elections before a war breaks out. We need a change of political elite. The new political elite must launch negotiations over Nagorno-Karabakh anew,” Hovhannisyan said. He added that the incumbent authorities’ potential in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process has been exhausted.

“Due to the negotiations they are now on the brink of war,” Hovhannisyan said. “Powerful states are capable of blitzkriegs - what Russia did in Georgia. However, it is not the case with Armenia-like countries,” he said. Hovhannisyan said that a war, if breaks out, may be protracted
