Not having active foreign policy we cannot use Southern Sudan’s declaration of independence as a precedent, former NKR Foreign Minister Arman Melikyan told the journalists today.

“Sudan’s independence cannot serve as a precedent for us as we do not have political course. It was an interesting precedent for Africa just as Kosovo for Europe. These processes enable to make world powers manageable to certain extent and find levers in different regions,” he added.

According to him, Armenia needs more precise policy to resist pro- Azerbaijani moods. “Independence of Nagorno-Karabakh is being discussed, but such important issues as demarcation of borders and problems of refugees are not raised,” he added.

Melikyan believes Armenian President’s words concerning possible recognition of Karabakh’s independence must conform to deeds. “President’s statement that Armenia will recognize NKR if Azerbaijan resumes hostilities restricts Armenia’s political activeness excluding any other ways to recognition,” former foreign minister noted, adding that no crucial changes in talks should be expected in the near future.
