The international community considers Armenia a reliable and predictable partner due to Yerevan’s consistent foreign policy and steps taken in this direction, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian told a press conference on Friday.

According to him, in 2010 Armenian Foreign Ministry continued its activities to improve the country’s international image and presentation of its position to the world community. “Due to the measures taken in this direction, the Armenian side’s position on the Karabakh issue became similar to that of the international community,” the minister noted.

According to Nalbandian, steps have been taken to intensify the strategic partnership between Russia and Armenia. The Foreign Minister emphasized Armenia-U.S. cooperation also developed during last year. Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s visit to Washington and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s visit to Yerevan greatly contributed to the enhancement of cooperation.

Edward Nalbandian stressed Yerevan also stepped up efforts to develop cooperation with international agencies and improved ties with its direct neighbors, particularly Iran and Georgia. According to him, Armenia is making efforts to intensify collaboration with Asian, Arab and Latin American countries.

During 2010, over 70 international treaties were signed, the Armenian President 22 foreign visits, Presidents of six other states paid a visit to Yerevan. The Foreign Minister visited 24 countries, Parliament Speaker 9 and Premier 6 states respectively.

Nalbandian underscored the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide under Ottoman Turkey remains a priority on Yerevan’s agenda. In 2010, over 40 events dedicated to the Armenian Genocide were organized in different countries. The official also stressed Armenia’s steps in terms of Armenia-Turkey relations were approved by the international community.
