Early elections are a necessity for Armenia and, if initiated by the authorities, they will prove an assessment of the same authorities’ activities, Ruben Hakobyan, Vice-Chairman of the Heritage Party, told journalists January 18.

“Early elections mean not doing what we have been doing to date. I have always said that, if the authorities show political will and organize free early elections, I only welcome it. By making such a step Serzh Sargsyan will become a perfectly legitimate political figure,” Hakobyan said.

Artak Zakaryan, a member of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), pointed out that early elections have been talked about in the country since 2008, but “it is not a higher school administration’s decision on fine or exams.” “It is a serious political process. In democratic countries the reason for it is not a wish of the authorities of the Opposition, but a deep political crisis,” he said.
