Haykakan Zhamanak writes that Governor of Kotayk region Kovalenko Shahgaldyan asked Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan to relieve him from the post after elections of Charentsvan Mayor scheduled for this week are over.

Incumbent mayor of Charentsvan is governor’s son – Hakob Shahgaldyan. Rumors about governor’s resignation have been recently going around. They say deputy chief of police Sashik Afyan will replace the governor. Pre-election campaign is rather tensed in Charentsavan. Former ARFD member Mushegh Nikoghosyan also came forward as a candidate.
