Even if Turkey refuses to sign the Protocols, the Armenian-Turkish dialogue will be continued anyway, Galust Sahakyan, Head of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) parliamentary faction stated at a press briefing in the Armenian National Assembly.

“With Armenia and Turkey actively integrating into Europe, we have no other way but establish a dialogue with Turkey and get the border reopened, which requires a diplomatic ground,” Sahakyan said. However, he doubts that Armenia and Turkey will be in truly friendly relations some day. Speaking of the Protocols, Sahakyan stressed that the RPA will “have the lion’s share” of responsibility if the Armenian-Turkish Protocols are ratified and will certainly welcome them if they are amended to Armenia’s advantage.

The Armenian-Turkish Protocols were initialed on August 31 and are to be ratified by the Armenian and Turkish Parliaments.
