YEREVAN. – My nomination as a candidate for Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia is a formality. I was not nominated candidate for Prime Minister by the “Way Out” [(Yelk)] Faction to be elected Prime Minister, but not to be elected. So, today the National Assembly [(NA)] should not vote for me.

Acting PM Nikol Pashinyan stated the aforementioned at Wednesday’s session of the NA.

“The meaning of the [current] nomination [of mine] is not to leave any chance for speculations about the legitimacy of the forthcoming [snap] National Assembly elections,” Pashinyan added. “[It is] to rule out any legal loophole to stop the forthcoming elections.

“We will have snap elections in the coming December, [and] which shall become the final destination of the final triumph of the velvet revolution that took place in Armenia, in April-May 2018.”

As reported earlier, even though the “Way Out” Faction has nominated acting PM Nikol Pashinyan’s candidacy to the office of Prime Minister, it has asked all MPs not to vote for him so that the parliament can be dissolved a week later, when a PM is not elected yet again. In case of such a scenario, a snap parliamentary election will be conducted in the first half of December.

But if the legislature elects Pashinyan Prime Minister, the NA dissolution will come out of the agenda, or at least be put off.
