In Valencia (Spain), Sept. 22, Gary Kasparov and Anatoly Karpov played two games. In the first day Kasparov won both with as few as 30 moves.
“The first game was a fianchetto Grunfeld, and Kasparov got an extremely comfortable game. Black seemed to be having all the fun — I wonder how many Grunfeld converts it will create? Despite his unpleasant game, Karpov was far from lost, but he got low on time and flagged in 23 moves,” U.S. Chess Federation informs.

Next game is to take place on Wed. at 9 p.m. Moscow time. Twelve rounds are scheduled for September 22-24.

As NEWS.am already informed, Kasparov and Karpov are intending to play in all countries – Spain, Russia, U.K., France, U.S., – where they have early fought for championship within six months. By the way, it was initially planned that the first host-city will be London. However, Spain took up the initiative as organizational talks were dragged out.

The match in London of 1984 lasted 5 months resulting 5:2 in Karpov’s favour.

At the Moscow 1985 match, Kasparov won 13:11, made chess history as the youngest world champion.

Later in 1986, 1987 and 1990 Kasparov reaffirmed his title.
