YEREVAN. – There is corruption in the judicial system of Armenia; at least, there is such a perception.

Minister of Justice Artak Zeynalyan noted about the aforementioned at Wednesday’s event devoted to the first anniversary of the Supreme Judicial Council of the country. He added that the disclosures and arrests that are made on suspicion of corruption bespeak this fact.

“There is such a phenomenon [in Armenia], and it should be uprooted,” the minister said. “Of course, the corruption risks—one of the manifestations of which is also the low level of social guarantees—also should be uprooted.

“Judges should have sufficient social guarantees, sufficient earnings and equivalent pensions; in this sense, Armenia is in the last place at the Council of Europe.”
