The Armenian society should be seriously concerned over Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Moscow, as Turkey-Russia convergence is always fraught with grave consequences for Armenia, Secretary from Armenian Revolutionary Federation Dashnaktsutyun (ARF-D) Artyusha Shahbazyan told reporters on Thursday.

He emphasized the fact that the Turkish Premier’s visit to Moscow is scheduled for March 15-16.  March 16 marks the 90th anniversary of Treaty of Moscow (Article III of the treaty instituted an autonomous Nakhchivan oblast under Azerbaijan’s protectorate).

“The two people will mark the 90th anniversary of a deal tearing Armenia to asunder. I think this day is not chosen by accident,” he noted. The parliamentarian refused to make forecasts, stressing Armenia should keep track of the developments. Commenting on the question whether concrete developments are possible in the Armenia-Turkey rapprochement, Shahbazyan said Erdogan’s visit aims at improving Moscow-Ankara relations.

“The relations in question were established at the cost of Armenia’s blood, Armenia was turned into an altar. We should give an adequate response,” he said. Shahbazyan did not rule out that ARFD will issue a statement on the 90th anniversary of Moscow Treaty.
