Turkish dancers will perform together with Armenian dance troupe Maral in a show called ‘Istanbulluys’.

Ninety dancers will take part in the show, Hurriyet Daily News& Economic Review reports. General Art Director of dance and theater group Shaman Murat Uygun said they would not highlight the identities. “The songs, actions and figures are so similar that it is not possible to tell the love for humanity in the poetry of Armenian Sayat Nova and Turkish Yunus Emre with a different language. This is why we try to do something beyond identities,” he told the newspaper.

Maral was formed in 1976 as an amateur group with opportunities of Istanbul’s Armenian society, said Maral’s General Art Director Garbis Capkan.

The age of dancers in 60-member group is between 6 and 25. “We need to accept all applications. We are a small community in Istanbul with 50,000 people. We don’t have the luxury to choose people. Also, we survive thanks to the financial resources of the community,” he said.
