“The European Union continues to support the Armenian-Turkish normalization strongly. We encourage both countries to stay committed to this historical process. I am confident that there will be new possibilities for dialogue in the future,” President of the European Commission José Manuel Durao Barroso stated at the meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan in Belgium.

The normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations was initiated by Yerevan. Armenia and Turkey signed Protocols on the normalization of relations, which were to be ratified by the parliaments of two countries. However, the ratification process of the accords was frozen due to Ankara’s non-constructive position.
