Libyan authorities decided to halt military operations against the rebels in response to UN Security Council’s resolution which stipulates creation of a no-fly zone over Libya, Al Jazeera reports.

All military operations are suspended in the territory of Libya, country’s foreign minister Moussa Koussa told the journalists. He also stressed Libya is interested in protecting all civilians and foreigners.

On March 18 UN Security Council voted 10:0 for resolution demanding immediate ceasefire in Libya. The resolution was also backed by the European Union.

A wave of unrest continues in Libya since February. The demonstrators protest against leader Muammar Gaddafi who has been in power for more than 40 years. Gaddafi’s opponents seized many cities in the eastern part of the country. Clashes between rebels and pro-Gaddafi forces continue.
