Facebook is considering the possibility of hiding the likes in the news feed,TechCrunch Internet portal reported.

A similar function has already begun to be tested on Instagram in seven countries around the world, including Canada and Brazil. Instead of the total number of likes, users are shown only a few names of mutual friends who liked the post.

“The idea is to prevent users from destructively comparing themselves to others and possibly feeling inadequate if their posts don’t get as many Likes. It could also stop users from deleting posts they think aren’t getting enough Likes or not sharing in the first place,” the source noted.

Facebook is one of the largest social networks. It was founded in February 2004 by 19-year-old American student Mark Zuckerberg. Headquarters are located in Menlo Park (California). Instagram is owned by Facebook after the purchase in April 2012.
