YEREVAN. - Health of European boxing champion and opposition activist Samson Khachatryan who is currently in Armenian Nubarashen penitentiary has deteriorated the oppositional Armenian National Congress (ANC) member Armen Khachatryan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Activist of the ANC Samson Khachatryan was arrested on March 13. He was charged with using force against policeman. The ANC and Samson Khachatryan himself consider persecution is politically motivated.

“Lawyer said he has heart problems,” said Armen Khachatryan. “Samson Khachatryan’s life is in danger as his cell lacks appropriate conditions to receive medical treatment.”

He noted that Samson Khachatryan underwent surgery four months prior to his arrest and continued treatment. The ANC member said management of penitentiary bans medical examination carried out by civilian doctor, while physician of the penitentiary said boxer is suffering from neurosis which provokes heart problems.

Official representative of the Justice Ministry of Armenia Arsen Babayan told that results of Samson Khachatryan’s medical examination will be made public later.
