Chairperson of the Court of Cassation Yervand Khundkaryan yesterday received the delegation of the High Council of the Judiciary of Italy led by Vice-President David Ermini.

As reported the Supreme Judicial Council of Armenia, Chairperson of the Civil and Administrative Chamber of the Court of Cassation Ruzanna Hakobyan and Chairperson of the Criminal Chamber Lilit Tadevosyan also participated in the meeting.

Greeting the guests, Yervand Khundkaryan presented the constitutional mission of the Court of Cassation, the mechanisms for operation of the Chambers and the Chambers’ procedures for examining appeals and rendering decisions and touched upon the importance of the case law institution of the Court of Cassation.

The guests asked about the structure of the Court of Cassation of Armenia, the role it plays in the judiciary and the number of appeals that the Court of Cassation receives on an annual basis.

Chairperson of the Criminal Chamber Lilit Tadevosyan noted that Armenia is currently in a stage of judicial and legal reforms that will lead to serious structural changes and revision of the legislation and that Armenia attaches great importance to the effective cooperation with international partners.

Issues on effective contacts between the public and the judiciary, increase of public confidence, protection of the reputation of a judge and disciplinary proceedings were also discussed during the meeting.
