Saudi Arabia intends to fight for women, climate protection and technological progress as G20 chair, Riyadh said in a statement.

According to the statement, the country's chairmanship should create conditions in which all people - especially women and youth - will be able to live, work and achieve success, DW reported.

Riyadh also intends to promote measures to protect the climate in order to guarantee people's access to water and food, to uphold innovation and technological progress. The country joined to lead the G20 on December 1.

Saudi Arabia is a country where women's rights are most severely restricted throughout the world, DPA said. Thus, women are prescribed strict clothing rules, they still require the consent of the husband in many areas of life, and advocates of women's rights often end up in prison.

Riyadh's statement and G20 presidency have also sharply criticized Reporters Without Borders. They recalled the murder and dismemberment of journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Consulate General of Saudi Arabia in Istanbul and the recent mass arrests of media workers. According to the organization, the country's statements and the chairmanship of the G20 are PR.
