Seventy per cent of Turkey’s population is for the signing of the Armenian-Turkish Protocol, whereas the situation is quite different in Armenia – 55 to 70 per cent of the country’s population is against the documents, the former Armenian foreign minister Vartan Oskanian stated at a discussion organized by the Civilitas Foundation.

According to him, no open Armenian-Turkish dialogue is possible between Armenian and Turkish political figures, as it is the top echelons of power that are controlling the process. According to Oskanian, this is evidence of both countries lacking a proper level of democracy.

President of the Yerevan press club Boris Navasardyan stated that the Armenian-Turkish Protocols are unacceptable and incomprehensible for ordinary Armenian citizens. “No reference to public opinion can produce any results. If people do not know an answer to a question, this answer cannot be a concrete one,” Oskanian said.
