Armenia will never accept any precondition imposed by Turkey, said Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan at the press conference at the beginning of a two-day visit to Slovenia, AFP reports.

“I think we do not need to do more unless the Turks ratify these protocols in their parliament,” said President Sarkisian, referring to protocols signed by Armenia and Turkey in 2009.

“It was our desire – a desire that still exists – to establish relations with Turkey without preconditions,” Sarkisian added at a joint news conference with Slovenian President Danilo Turk in Ljubljana on Wednesday.

President Sargsyan stressed that Armenia was prompt to freeze the process of protocols’ ratification in the parliament “soon after Turks refused to ratify them in their parliament.”

The protocols on the establishment of bilateral relations between Armenia and Turkey were signed on October 10, 2009 in Zurich by the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of Armenia and Turkey, Edvard Nalbandyan and Ahmad Davoudoghlu. Both countries were intended to ratify protocols in their national parliaments. However, President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan was prompt to freeze the process of protocols’ ratification due to Turkey’s destructive approach and preconditions imposed by Turks.
