YEREVAN. – Chairman of the Central Electoral Commission of Armenia, Tigran Mukuchyan, met in the National Assembly (NA) today with speaker Ararat Mirzoyan.
Asked whether the National Assembly's decision to put to a referendum the matter of terminating the term of office of the serving Constitutional Court (CC) president and its other members had been discussed, Mukuchyan said that they had discussed general issues over legislative issues.
In response to questions about the referendum, Mukuchyan urged to wait until it is officially appointed.
“The deadlines envisioned by the Law on Referendum are even slightly longer than the deadlines envisioned for early elections,” Mukuchyan added.
As reported earlier, at the February 6 special session of the National Assembly, the parliament decided to put to a referendum the issue of terminating the tenure of incumbent CC President Hrayr Tovmasyan and other CC members.
