YEREVAN. - Demolition of “Monument to Humanity” in Kars puts an end to the attempt to normalize relations between Armenia and Turkey, Russian expert Alexander Khramchikhin told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

A monument built to celebrate friendship between Turkey and Armenia is being dismantled in Kars. The Turkish authorities started demolition of the monument, commemorating efforts to improve relations, when Armenians were marking the 96th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide under Ottoman Empire in 1915.

Commenting on the question whether it is a coincidence, the expert said: “Apparently, it puts an end to the Armenian-Turkish process.”

According to him, the Armenian-Turkish process was part of fundamental changes in Turkey’s foreign policy. “But there are evident restrictions, particularly the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict is in question.  “Armenia and Azerbaijan have diametrically divergent positions on the issue. Turkey cannot leave Azerbaijan and reorient on Armenia. For this reason, there is no point in putting on an act,” the expert stressed.
