YEREVAN. - U.S. continues pressurizing Turkey to move forward Armenian-Turkish reconciliation, said Armenian expert Alexander Iskandaryan.
He said U.S. will mount pressure after parliamentary election in Turkey, forecasting victory for the ruling Justice and Development Party. However, the expert deems U.S. does not have many tools to press Ankara. In fact U.S. needs Turkey more than vice versa, he added.
Iskandaryan labeled Armenia-Turkey reconciliation process as “American-European or even Russian project.” As to Europe’s pressure on Turkey, the expert considers it is possible only in case Europe sets a precondition of normalizing relations with Armenia for accepting Turkey in the EU.
