Rio de Janeiro enters the sixth stage of lifting quarantine restrictions from September 1.

Museums, libraries, exhibition centers, and amusement parks re-open on Tuesday in the capital of the Brazilian carnival. But sunbathing on the beaches is still prohibited, Rossiyskaya Gazeta reported.

For the second week, the situation with the coronavirus in Rio de Janeiro has raised concerns of local authorities. The average death rate from COVID-19 over this period has grown by almost a third, reaching an average rate of 96 deaths per day.

This was one of the factors that influenced the decision to divide the final sixth stage of lifting quarantine restrictions into three levels. Stage 6A will last a month, after which the state authorities will decide on the transition to the next level. However, the lifting of all restrictions is unlikely to be expected before the appearance of the COVID-19 vaccine in Brazil.

According to a state government decree, theaters, cinemas, and sports arenas remain closed for now. It will not be possible to sunbathe on city beaches.

The question of resuming full-time education in schools and universities remains in limbo. Local authorities say that the re-opening of schools is premature, refer to public opinion polls, according to which 60 percent of citizens are afraid to send their children to educational institutions.
