YEREVAN. -  If the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Dashnakstutyun (ARFD) had a vast majority of issues on its agenda a couple of years ago, today 70-80% of ARFD’s topical issues are of social-economic nature, head of ARFD  parliamentary group Vahan Hovhannisyan told a press conference on Monday. According to him, issues of national interest will not be solved unless these goals are achieved.

The ARFD member insisted that Armenia may ensure natural development without any compromises over issues of national importance, of which are Karabakh conflict and Armenia-Turkey rapprochement. Meanwhile the MP noted that the Armenian National Congress (ANC) has taken a quite different position on the matter.

“The ANC considers that Armenia’s further development is conditioned only by compromises on national priority issues. Armenia’s authorities, like ARFD claim that Armenia should not develop to the detriment of national interests, but… Meanwhile, they claim that weather conditions and global financial crisis hinder the country’s development,” Hovhannisyan stressed. 

According to him, the ruling regime is not able to put the country to follow the natural course, as they will be forced to change radically governance structure, economic system, to eliminate oligopolies and fight corruption. However, according to the MP, it is not in Armenian authorities’ interests.

Hovhannisyan stressed that a significant part of the Armenian society will not give vote to anyone.  As for the “undecided” political forces, the ARFD members said that the experience fighting against Armenia-Turkey Protocols indicates that many of them are ready to join the ARFD.

“They should decide whether to join the ARFD or the ANC on the eve of upcoming elections,” Hovhannisyan emphasized
