Mamuka Areshidze, Head of the “Caucasian Strategic Studies Center, says the Protocols on normalizing the Armenia-Turkey relations was a surprise both for the region and for the international community. He maintains the issue is unpredictable and only the future will show the consequences.

”What is taking place between these two countries is the U.S. program aimed at replacing Georgia with Armenia. For the same reason, Russia was supporting the program. Although after the August war Georgia has appeared an unstable country, the reality has changed. U.S. drew the right lesson and planned to rearrange the whole region focusing not solely on Georgia or Armenia but on the whole region. America’s main goal is to take Armenia from under Russia’s influence," the Georgian expert said.

“Let’s see further developments, as protest rallies against the Protocols are held both in Armenia and Turkey,” he concluded.
