The UK has the highest death rate from COVID-19 per 100,000 inhabitants, CNN reported.

On Wednesday, the UK recorded the highest number of new deaths in a day - 1,820 daily, and on average, about 1,240 new deaths were recorded daily over the past seven days.

Country comparisons are imperfect given that they are based on data from each individual country.

However, the UK's record of 66 million deaths far exceeds the record number of deaths in other major countries, including the United States, on a per capita basis.

To date, the UK has recorded 96,166 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
