Libyan state television broadcasted pictures of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi meeting with Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, President of the International Chess Federation in Tripoli on Sunday.

Interfax news agency quoted Ilyumzhinov, as saying he played chess with Muammar Gaddafi.

According to Ilyumzhinov, he came to Libya at the invitation of Gaddafi’s son, who leads the Olympic Committee of Libyan. A chess tournament in Tripoli is scheduled for October 1.

At the G8 summit Dmitry Medvedev offered Russia’s services as a mediator and said he was sending Margelov, Russian President’s special envoy to Africa.
