Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has been infected with COVID-19, the head of the military department announced this on his Twitter, TASS reported.

He said that symptoms are mild and he is in quarantine.

He also asked everyone who has had recent contact with him to isolate themselves and get tested for COVID-19.

Singh was not the first high-ranking official in India to be tested positive. Earlier, positive tests for COVID-19 were reported from road transport and home affairs ministers, as well as from chief ministers of several Indian states.

According to the World Health Organization, India remains the second country in the world after the United States with the most coronavirus infections since the start of the pandemic - more than 35 million people. It ranks third in the number of deaths from COVID-19 (483,178 people).
