The number of confirmed new cases of coronavirus infection in Germany increased by 80,430 per day, which was the next maximum for the entire pandemic, the Robert Koch Institute of Virology reported.

The previous anti-record was recorded on November 25, when 75,961 cases of infection were detected per day. Since the beginning of the epidemic, the infection has been detected in 7 661 811 residents of Germany.

From the consequences of the disease caused by the coronavirus, 384 patients died in the country in 24 hours. The total number of deaths for the entire time of the pandemic in Germany reached 114,735. In a country with a population of 83.2 million people, more than 6.2 million have recovered.

According to the preliminary results of a special assessment of the Federal Statistical Office of Germany, the annual mortality rate in Germany for the first time since 1946 exceeded 1 million people and amounted to 1,016,899. an increase in the proportion of older people in its structure.

As follows from the materials of the department, one of the reasons for the acceleration in the growth of the annual number of deaths was also a pandemic: for the period from 2019 to 2021, the increase in mortality was about 8%, 2-4 times higher than the forecasts of experts.
