Meta is considering a scenario for shutting down Facebook and Instagram in the EU, the US securities and exchange commission.

The issues are related to the adoption in the EU of a new law providing for the storage and processing of data only on European servers. Meta data is currently located in the US and Europe. The company believes that its approach is critical for business - both in terms of social networks and for the advertising market.

The new EU rules in Meta are assessed as a threat to the work of Facebook and Instagram. Without a transatlantic data transmission system, the company may leave the European market altogether.

Vice President of Global Affairs Nick Clegg said the law would be disastrous not only for the Internet landscape, but for all business owners who relied on the mechanisms of social media.
