China's Wuhan University has cooperated with the smartphone manufacturer OPPO to develop a new type of cooling material for the phone case, Xinhua reported.
The thermoregulation mechanism of the new material, called Glacier Mat, resembles the process of evaporative cooling of a spaceship or the human body dissipating heat through sweat. The material can perform self-circulating evaporative cooling.
It is thermoregulated by its physical properties and does not require additional electricity or other forms of energy.
When the smartphone overheats, the material removes heat through water evaporation. And when it cools, the material absorbs moisture to regulate the temperature of the case.
During the experiment, the developers concluded that under the same conditions of continuous use for one hour, a smartphone equipped with a case made of the above material was 2.3 degrees Celsius cooler than conventional smartphones.
So far, this technology has already been used in the recently released OPPO smartphone protective case. Developers claim that in the future it could also be implemented in computers and solar panels.
The lifespan of the material has not been yet confirmed.
