Law enforcement officers in the state of Mexico detained suspects in the murder of eight members of a family in the municipality of Tultepec,  Twitter of the prosecutor's office of the region nreported.

The perpetrators carried out the massacre on the night of 11 April.

The Mexico State Prosecutor's Office has detained the suspects in the massacre in Tultepec, with two arrest warrants pending against one of them, including for murder, and he is affiliated with a criminal gang.

 A total of eight people ended up in custody. The oversight agency believes they are part of a gang that is involved in drug trafficking and extortion in the municipalities of Tultepec, Melchor-Ocampo and Tultitlan. The detainees are expected to face charges in the near future.

Organized criminal networks and drug cartels are largely responsible for the rampant violence Mexico has experienced over the years. More than 33,300 homicides were reported in the country in 2021, about half of them in the states of Guanajuato, Mexico City, Michoacán, Baja California, Jalisco and Chihuahua.
