The global incidence of covid declined for the fourth week in a row, with about 5.8 million cases detected worldwide in the past seven days, down about 36% from the previous similar period.

That corresponds to the level of mid-December last year, according to TASS calculations.

South Korea is still in first place with an average of about 130,000 new cases per day. The disease rate in South Korea has fallen dramatically and already dropped by half compared to the previous week.

The incidence remains high in a number of European countries, but there has been a decline. For example, in Germany about 140 thousand people a day get Covid, but over the past seven days, the figure has dropped by a quarter. In France, Covid was detected in 120 thousand people a day - a decrease of more than 10% compared to last week. In Italy, the disease has reached a plateau -  60 thousand people.

New outbreaks are noted in Asia. In Japan, about 50 thousand new patients per day are registered, in Thailand more than 20 thousand people.

Mortality rates have also gone down on the backdrop of a sharp decline in disease incidence. In the last seven days in the world because of Covid about 20 thousand people died - by 5.5 thousand less than in the previous similar period.

On the first place in terms of mortality are the U.S., where about 400 deaths per day are registered. This is a third less than last week. The second is Russia, with about 255 deaths a day. Next is Germany, where the figure is about 250.
