Samsung has patented a smartphone with a transparent screen, according to SamMobile.
The corresponding patent was noticed in the database of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), it was published on April 14. In the document, the company's engineers described the use of a phone that has a retractable screen.
The part of the display that is pulled out of the housing is transparent. Samsung specialists did not explain for what purpose such a technical solution was applied. The diagrams show two types of invented devices: one has a retractable screen on the side, the other on top.
The journalists noted that the fact of publishing a patent does not guarantee that the corporation is going to release phones with a similar form factor to the market.
However, Samsung has protected its developments and intellectual property in WIPO in case it decides to bring this ambitious idea to life, the authors emphasized. Experts recalled that Samsung introduced the concept of a transparent OLED screen for gadgets in 2015, but then decided to stop its production due to low demand for such devices.
