The Danish government plans to temporarily increase gas production at its fields in the North Sea in order to refuse supplies from Russia, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen told reporters.

“We will increase production of natural gas in the North Sea for a limited time period,” Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen told reporters during a briefing on Tuesday. “We are convinced it's better to produce gas in the North Sea than buying it from (Russian President) Vladimir Putin,” Frederiksen said.

According to Reuters, the Danish government intends to phase out the use of gas in the long term in order to achieve independence from fuel supplies from Russia.
