Kazakhstan's first president Nursultan Nazarbayev believes that if any of his relatives used his name as a cover for breaking the law, they should be held accountable.
"For many years we have been building a state of law in Kazakhstan. Its fundamental principle is that the law is the same for everyone. If any of my relatives behind my back used my name as a cover for breaking the law, they must bear the corresponding responsibility," Nazarbayev said in an interview with prominent Kazakhstani political analyst Daniyar Ashimbayev, who published the text in his Telegram channel.
According to Nazarbayev, the guilt must be proven in court. "We must not forget that every citizen has the right to legal protection," he said.
