A train driver was killed and 8 others were injured of varying degrees of severity after a high-speed train derailed in Rongjiang County, Guizhou Province in the southwest, Xinhua reports with reference to the Chinese Railway Corporation roads.
According to the company, the tragedy occurred on Saturday at about 10:30 am with the passenger train D2809, following the Guiyang-Guangzhou route. Two cars of this train arriving at Rongjiang station derailed due to mudflows that fell on the railway track.
The driver died as a result of the accident. Seven passengers and one conductor escaped with injuries and were hospitalized in one of the local hospitals, where they receive qualified assistance. According to doctors, nothing threatens their lives. A total of 136 other passengers were evacuated, according to KZD.
The incident is under investigation.
