Estonian prosecutor’s office disclosed details of the Thursday incident when Armenian Karen Drambyan broke into the building of the Defense Ministry and was later killed during the operation.

According to the prosecutors, the victim received several gunshot wounds, he had no accomplices and acted alone.

Drambyan was killed during a shootout on Thursday at about 5:25 p.m. local time, reports DELFI portal.

Negotiators from the Security Police tried to contact the gunman at the accident scene but failed.

The gunman spent almost two hours in the administrative area on the ground floor of the ministry, in an isolated room where he was alone. He did not manage to enter guarded rooms of the building. A shoot-out between Drambyan and security forces broke out in the administrative area. Preliminary reports saying the shooter was trying to commit suicide were not confirmed.

One policeman was slightly injured, and another got a bullet in his bulletproof vest.

According to preliminary data, three improvised explosive devices, which were later disarmed, were found at the scene. Over ten explosive devises were set off.

The criminal fired from his personal weapon for which he had a license.  He also used improvised explosive devices, which caused smoke and noise, but did not cause any injuries to people or damage the building.

During the incident no hostages were taken, but two of the employees were under Drambyan’s control. The offender, who was speaking Russian, did not put forward any demands.

Karen Drambyan, a 57-year-old citizen of Estonia, was born in Armenia in 1954.

In 1993 he was granted citizenship of Estonia. He had no links either to defense forces or the Ministry of Defense.
