China has imposed fines on technology giants Alibaba and Tencent, as well as a number of other companies, for failing to comply with antitrust rules on the disclosure of information about transactions, Reuters reported, citing the country's regulator.
The State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) has published a list of 28 transactions in which violations of the rules were recorded. Five of them involved divisions of Alibaba, including the purchase in 2021 of a stake in its subsidiary, streaming platform Youku Tudou.
Tencent has participated in 12 deals on the SAMR list.
China's technology sector has become one of the main targets of the fight against monopolistic practices that began at the end of 2020.
Under antitrust law, the maximum potential fine in each case is 500,000 yuan ($74,688).
