A natural gas field has been found in Georgia, which, after being developed, will be able to provide the country with this energy resource for eight years.

The field is located near Tbilisi, said Giorgi Tatishvili, head of the State Oil and Gas Agency of Georgia, during the program "Saqmis Kursi" on BMG TV channel. The U.S. company Schlumberger is exploring the well there, while the production license belongs to Block Energy, Novosti-Georgia reported.

"Block Energy is one of our promising projects. The well drilled by Schlumberger, in that area, has confirmed reserves of 16 billion cubic meters. It's equal to the consumption of Georgia for eight years," Tatishvili said.

According to him, Block Energy will "return to this project with a confirmed plan" at the end of 2022-beginning of 2023. Horizontal drilling is planned there, which will produce more commercial gas.
