The growth of the construction sector in Armenia has nothing to do with the fighting in Ukraine and sanctions against Russia. Armenian opposition MP Artur Khachatryan stated this at a roundtable discussion on Friday.

He explained that the aforesaid growth is related to the changes launched by the Armenian authorities in the Tax Code.

"According to these changes, income tax refunds from mortgage loans will begin to be canceled. And that’s why the builders have become more active," added Khachatryan.

As for the capital expenses that the Armenian authorities are boasting about, the quality of the new alternative motorway from Goris to Kapan cities raises questions.

"After a few months, cracks and mounds have appeared on the road," the opposition lawmaker said.

To note, in January-May 2022, the amount of construction in Armenia increased by 11 percent.
